Frank French in Concert
Sunday, April 6, 2008, 2 p.m. - Santa Rosa, California

When Frank French is scheduled to play the question sometimes arises, "Which Frank will show up?" Will it be the author of the most widely recorded and played piece of New Ragtime in the last 20 years, "Belle of Louisville"? Maybe it will be the interpreter of Gottschalk in his full virility; or perhaps the first American to record and play the tangos and choros of Ernesto Nazareth from the time he appeared at the first West Coast Ragtime festival in 1987. He may come to play music of Scott Joplin or Jelly Roll Morton. Or maybe it will be the man who has recorded the complete rags of James Scott. We are assured that on Sunday, April 6 it is likely to be any or all of the above, and more!

"I'm not one to drop names" says French. "I'm sure there are some people who think I don't play enough ragtime who are not even aware of most of the pieces I have written in that style."

With a vast array of recordings (click http://www.frankfrench.name/discs.htm to see) who can doubt that this performer owns a vast repertoire and an omnivorous musical appetite? In addition to all the music of other composers living and dead whose music he has played he has added many of his own works to the growing list of new compositions for piano solo and ensemble.

"It occurred to me that many solo works of mine after 'Belle' were beyond the reach of most intermediate players", says French "So I started assigning the parts to various instruments. Now the heat is off the solo player, but the group is challenged to synchronize well to properly render this music, so those players have to be good too!"
