Ray Skjelbred in Concert
Sunday, September 12, 2010, 2 p.m. - Santa Rosa, California

Ray Skjelbred has been a featured piano soloist in concerts and festivals for many years. He has appeared as a solo performer at the West Coast Ragtime Festival, Breda Jazz Festival in Holland, America's Finest City Festival in San Diego, the Edinburgh, Scotland Jazz Festival, and many others. He has also led his own groups (the Ray Skjelbred Quartet, the Great Excelsior Jazz Band, and others) and has worked and recorded with most of the leading traditional jazz musicians of the past few decades. Ray has worked with Turk Murphy's band, Bob Mielke's Bearcats and with a variety of other groups that included or were led by Dick Oxtot, Hal Smith, Ev Farey, Jim Goodwin, Bob Helm, Bill Napier, Richard Hadlock, John Gill, Clint Baker, Chris Tyle and many others. He currently works most often with Bob Schulz and the Frisco Jazz Band, the Port City Jazz Band and the Bob Jackson Band.

His piano work appears on the Triangle/Rhythm Master, Solo Art, Arcola, Pianomania, Euphonic, Stomp Off and Jazzology labels.

Ray will be playing a typical eclectic mix of early jazz standards, blues, barrelhouse, classic ragtime, including some rags most people haven’t heard him play before, and a few new compositions.

Ray has a wonderful web site. Kudos to Katie Cavera for what is clearly is a creation from the heart. Here's what Ray says, "I guess I have a website and I especially have to thank Katie Cavera for establishing it and thinking it was worth doing. However, I still think people shouldn't get too fancy about themselves. Beware of the Western ego. Still, you may find useful information in the different categories. Of course the useless information is even more important." Check it out: http://www.rayskjelbred.com/.
